Gwydir River Free Camps

Between Copeton Dam and Bingara there are many beautiful spots for primitive camping, with eight well signposted designated camp sites close to the Bingara township.

These campsites have grown in popularity over the years to become one of NSW top inland camping destinations. Despite their popularity, the campsites are vast and plentiful ensuring overcrowding isn’t an issue. All you need to do is pick a perfect spot and enjoy the Gwydir good life.

When visiting the campsites there are a few things to keep in mind. These sites are primitive camps with no facilities. Bins, dump points and potable water stations are located at convenient locations throughout Bingara and have been identified in the map below. There are some restrictions on the lengths of stay, so please take note of these limits when you arrive. Most importantly it is critical to remember that the river is generally peaceful and tranquil but at times it may rise quickly due to water releases from Copeton Dam and after heavy rainfall. When swimming please beware of fast flowing water, submerged objects and deep water.
